CONTEMPORARY WEARABLES 19

Biennal Jewellery Award and Exhibition - Toowoomba Region Art Galleries

The Phoenix tree
The materials for this brooch were retrieved from the cutting floors of the tailor’s workshop and the silver sellers of the bazaars of Bombay.
I attended a family wedding and went along with the bride to have her clothes tailored and to order new silverware in exchange for old broken silverware. I found these and more amazing scraps that have resulted in a few tree brooches, hence the title - The Phoenix tree, as this scrap had a bird, albeit a parrot in it, and all the materials rose from the wastage.
Currently in the collection of Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery.
